Headquartered in Houston, Icarus Oil and Gas, Inc. is one of only a handful of small independent companies offering 3D-based drilling opportunities to industry participants. Icarus was founded in 1996. Icarus is mainly a prospect-generating company that usually retains a minority interest in its projects. Prospects are generated from subsurface interpretation and a data base of approximately 2,500 square miles of 3D seismic data. Areas of active exploration and production are the Gulf Coast of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
